About the Avocado

Why Avocado, you ask?

For those of you who know me, I’m a big fan of that bumpy green fruit.

This is a love that only developed in my twenties, but seems to have grown exponentially during my time on ships.

You see, working onboard teaches you that there are few things that almost everyone is looking for:

  • Avocado
  • Brew that more closely resembles coffee than dirty water
  • Someone with which to share your sliver of a bed
  • The latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Is that last one just me? We all have our vices.

For those of you reading, if you remember years ago I began writing about my travels. Twisting and twirling my experiences, food, beautiful views, and life lessons into picturesque stories and winding thoughts. A lot has changed since then, but a few things have remained the same including my passion for travel, my love of good food, and my interest in finding my grounding in my ever-changing environment.

Not only do I love avocado, but avocado is a symbol of balance. As a totem, the avocado represents self love and self worth. It encourages balance between seemingly opposite traits. It encourages us to travel to awe-inspiring places and to perform acts of beauty and kindness.

It teaches that beauty comes from within (ugly outer skin, but beautiful tasty green on the inside) and it encourages us to fill our lives with joyful experiences.

It also translates to a word describing a part of the male anatomy, but we won’t go into that here! (Actually we might…in the quest of balance ya’ll!)

You can read more on totems here.

In the 50+ countries I have had the pleasure of visiting, I am always attempting to find my roots, be healthy, stay fit, and to find the things that ground me and keep me balanced.

Here I will post about what I’m learning on this journey. Tips for healthy travel, lessons I’ve learned on love and life abroad, how to listen to  your gut (literally and figuratively), what I’m learning about nutrition and fitness, and perhaps a little bit of food porn.

Thank you for visiting! I am, as always, in search of avocado.
